Course Description: This workshop is designed to help workers understand; the fundamental properties of steam, how major steam system components work, and how to safely start up, monitor, and shutdown steam distribution systems. At the completion of this workshop, the participants will be able to:

  • RECOGNIZE THE SAFETY HAZARDS ASSOCIATED WITH THEIR STEAM SYSTEMS

  • IDENTIFY WHAT PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT IS AVAILABLE.

  • UNDERSTAND THE BASIC PROPERTIES OF STEAM AND THE IMPORTANCE OF PRESSURE/TEMPERATURE RELATIONSHIPS.

  • DESCRIBE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF STEAM SYSTEM PERSONNEL.

  • DISCUSS THE PURPOSE AND FUNCTION OF MAJOR STEAM LINE COMPONENTS INCLUDING: PIPING, INSULATION, VALVES, STRAINERS, STEAM TRAPS, MUD LEGS/DRIP LEGS, SAFETY VALVES, EXPANSION JOINTS & LOOPS, AND INSTRUMENTATION AND EXPLAIN HOW THESE COMPONENTS WORK.

  • IDENTIFY THE PROPER WAY TO SAFELY WARM UP A STEAM LINE.

  • REVIEW APPROPRIATE SURVEILLANCE ACTIVITIES THAT SHOULD BE PERFORMED ON ALL OPERATING STEAM DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS.

  • EXPLAIN HOW TO SAFELY REMOVE A STEAM SYSTEM FROM SERVICE.

  • APPLY THEIR SKILLS IN A PRACTICAL APPLICATION EXERCISE IN WHICH PARTICIPANTS WILL (AS A TEAM) ASSEMBLE A TABLETOP STEAM DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM, AND INSTALL ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS FOR SAFE OPERATION.

Intended Audience:  This course is intended for steam system operators and maintenance personnel who operate and/or repair steam distribution systems.Steam Distribution Hands On Training class
