BUSINESS UPDATESWell, here we are already in the second quarter of 2007! As you will see below, our hectic schedule has not slowed down even a little. In fact, this year is shaping up to exceed our plans and projections. In addition to our other projects, we have already trained over 250 engineers, operators, managers, and maintenance personnel on the dangers of condensation induced water hammer – the flagship of our training curriculum. Here are some of our highlights for 2007: FLUOR
HANFORD / CH2M HILL / BATTELLE NORTHWEST NATIONAL LABORATORIES / U.S. DEPT. OF ENERGY
COMTEC International, Inc. provides industrial safety training for steam systems operations personnel at the Department Of Energy's Hanford Site. Training is provided at the HAMMER facility, one of the finest hands-on training facilities in the nation! Additionally, COMTEC has completed its 7th straight year providing Field Work Supervisors Initial and Refresher training to Fluor's Operations supervisors. This program provides instruction on supervisor responsibilities during single and multiple disciplined field activities for both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities. We are now into our 10th year providing steam system training for the Hanford Site, and we look forward to many more years to come! OAK RIDGE NATIONAL LABORATORY /
U.S. DEPT. OF ENERGY
COMTEC has maintained a very close relationship with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. We are developing Performanced-Based Training Programs for the Mechanical Utilities Division. Our work included writing, editing, revising, and updating over 70 operating procedures for steam, water, waste water, chilled water, boiler, and associated systems. We developed student manuals for both their steam plant and field utility operations. Additionally, we developed dozens operator full color study guides for each of their procedures to assist in On-the-Job training. We also conducted facility specific training on; boiler plant operations, auxiliary operations, steam distribution systems, hot water systems, chill water systems, waste water systems, and more! This is our 7th year supporting Mechanical Utilities at the lab and we look forward to continuing to assist them in maintaining a safe and knowledgeable workforce for many years to come! Weyerhaeuser – Rothschild MillROTHSCHILD, WI - January 2007 COMTEC presented a series of 5 Condensation Induced Water Hammer Workshops (Initial & Refresher) to engineers, operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel at Weyerhaeuser’s paper mill in Rothschild, Wisconsin. These workshops explained the hazards associated with steam void collapse type water hammers in steam piping systems. This was our fifth trip to the Rothschild mill. Weyerhaeuser makes worker safety a top priority, and it shows in the caliber of workers who attend our courses and their commitment to maintaining a safe worksite. Domtar Paper Company LLC purchased the mill from Weyerhaeuser shortly after our visit. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Domtar and the folks at their Rothschild mill! Glatfelter Paper (formerly Mead Paper)
We made our fourth trip to Glatfelter Pulp and Paper Mill in Chillicothe, Ohio in March, where we presented 5 Condensation Induced Water Hammer Initial Workshops to their engineers, operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel. This Chillicothe Mill has an outstanding workforce that is committed to maintaining a safe working environment and a well trained workforce, and it is always a pleasure to assist them in achieving that commitment! Plumbers and
Steamfitters Local 598
This will be our fourth annual Condensation Induced Water Hammer workshop for Local 598. This training will be for journeyman plumbers, pipefitters, steamfitters, and their apprentices. Local 598’s Training Coordinator, Pete Nicacio takes water hammer in steam systems very seriously, as a close friend of his (and mine) was killed in a steam accident involving water hammer several years ago. Pete wants to ensure that this type of accident never happens again to one of his coworkers. UPCOMING EVENTS:As we look toward spring and summer in 2007 our schedule continues to remain busy! Here are just a couple of activities that are on our calendar for the upcoming year:
